Six Years of Eminem Verzuz Arguments, and Eminem Has Never Said One Word About It

50 Cent brought it up again in August. DJ Hed spent a segment on it a week later. Before them: Fat Joe, Charlamagne, Busta Rhymes, E-40, The Game, and both Verzuz founders. There is no documented public comment from Eminem himself since 2020. Here is the complete ledger, and what the silence is actually telling you.

Six Years of Eminem Verzuz Arguments, and Eminem Has Never Said One Word About It

Everyone in hip hop has cast him in a Verzuz. Producers, hosts, rivals, friends, and one of the two men who invented the format. He has never once acknowledged it exists.

The argument came back around again in the last three weeks. 50 Cent was on Apple Music's Rap Life Review on August 20, 2026 for the Joe versus Donell Jones recap, and the hosts spent part of it trying to talk him into doing one. A week and a half later, DJ Hed gave a segment on Effective Immediately to why Eminem will never do one at all.

So we went and pulled every documented instance we could find since Verzuz launched. It is a long list, and there is one name missing from all of it.

About that 50 Cent quote

The line doing the rounds since August 22 is 50 saying he is not doing Verzuz and that they can call him back if they can get Eminem in it. It has been reported in that form by more than one outlet and clipped on X.

Complex's own write-up of that same Rap Life Review appearance quotes 50 on something else entirely: that the hosts were trying to convince him, and that "hip hop culture is connected to youth culture. You are not supposed to be the hottest in nothing at 60." The Eminem condition does not appear in that piece. Both things can be in a 43-minute episode; the audio was not available to check the exact wording. Widely reported, consistent with everything 50 has said for years, but unverified.

The full Rap Life Review episode, posted by Apple Music on August 21, 2026. 50 Cent appears with Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda.

What DJ Hed actually argued

Hed's point on Effective Immediately is the sharpest thing anyone has said about this, and it is not about matchups. His reasoning is that Verzuz is an anniversary business, and Eminem does not run an anniversary business. He sketched the hypothetical anyway: a Marshall Mathers LP milestone, a Detroit stadium show, a reason to promote. Then dismissed it, because the premise requires Eminem to care about being celebrated, and the evidence says he does not.

That tracks with the record. Anniversaries of The Marshall Mathers LP get a vinyl reissue and nothing else. The 25th got two live bonus tracks from the 2000 VMAs and a merch drop. No show, no tour, no press.

The Effective Immediately episode, posted August 29, 2026. The Verzuz recap and the "who could go against 50 Cent" segment sit around the 18-minute mark.

The structural problem nobody wants to say

Verzuz is a party format. Twenty records, a crowd, and the winner is whoever gets the room moving. E-40 was making a craft argument, not an insult, when he said Busta would take it: Busta has up-tempo records built for exactly that room, and Eminem's biggest songs are five-minute character studies about his mother, his daughter and his addictions.

"Stan" does not work in a Verzuz. Neither does "Mockingbird" or "Cleanin' Out My Closet." That is not a knock on the catalogue, it is a statement about what the catalogue was built to do. Eminem makes records for headphones and stadiums, not for a comment section voting in real time.

Which is probably the whole answer. He has not turned Verzuz down. He has never been asked in a room where he had to respond, and he has never volunteered. Six years of other people arguing about a show he has never mentioned is not a standoff. It is a fan theory with a very long run.

We also went back through Jay-Z's 2021 unbeatable claim, which is the closest the conversation has come to involving someone Eminem actually works with. He did not respond to that either.

Sources. Verzuz launched in March 2020, founded by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, sold to Triller in 2021, reacquired by the founders, and now runs in partnership with Complex. Dates and quotes in the ledger come from contemporaneous coverage: Fat Joe and Charlamagne from June 2020 Instagram Live reports; Busta Rhymes from a November 2020 interview; Charlamagne from The Brilliant Idiots, August 2021; Dr. Dre's Instagram post and Swizz Beatz's reply from late January 2022, as reported by Revolt on January 24, 2022; E-40 on Jalen & Jacoby, January 2022; The Game on Drink Champs, March 2022; Lil Wayne on the Gangsta Grillz podcast, released June 2026; 50 Cent on Apple Music's Rap Life Review, recorded around August 20, 2026 and posted August 21; DJ Hed on Effective Immediately, posted August 29, 2026. Eminem has never publicly commented on Verzuz. Nothing from the DJ Hed and Rap Life Review segments is quoted verbatim beyond what other outlets have published. Both embeds are the shows' own uploads.
