Kim Mathers's October 14 Hearing Got Postponed. The Judge Still Ruled on One Thing: How She Leaves Jail.
Wednesday's hearing for Kim Mathers, Eminem's ex-wife, was supposed to cover a misdemeanor sentencing and two felony conferences. Her attorney got it postponed instead. But Judge Hackel still ruled on the one question that mattered most: whether she can leave jail any other way than rehab. He said no, confirmed the standing offer, and set her next date for a Friday still to be announced.

We previewed Wednesday's docket and promised an update once there was reporting. Here it is: the conference moved, but the bond did not.
We previewed this date on Tuesday: a misdemeanor sentencing and two felony probable cause conferences, all set for Wednesday, October 14, at 9 a.m., for Kim Mathers, 51, Eminem's ex-wife, who has been held in the Macomb County Jail since October 7. What actually happened Wednesday was narrower than the docket suggested. According to ClickOnDetroit / WDIV, reporter Jenny Sherman, published at 2:17 p.m. and updated at 2:39 p.m., Mathers appeared by Zoom from jail, her attorney got the conference itself pushed to a later date, and Judge William Hackel III still ruled on the question that actually decides how long she stays locked up.
What got postponed, and what did not
Defense attorney Camilla Barkovic asked Hackel for more time to file multiple motions on Mathers's behalf. He agreed, and the probable cause conference was pushed back. No new date was set in public reporting; Hackel said only that Mathers's next court appearance will fall on "a future Friday." That means the misdemeanor sentencing and the two felony conferences did not happen Wednesday as scheduled, and the October 23 preliminary exam date we flagged in the preview is now unconfirmed.
What did not move is the bond itself. Barkovic separately asked Hackel to reinstate the bond conditions a magistrate had approved on October 2, the ones that let Mathers leave treatment and go on house arrest, which Hackel had thrown out on October 7 for lack of authority. He denied it again Wednesday:
Judge William Hackel III: "I set my bond a while ago, I thought it was a good bond; I thought it was a fair bond under the circumstances." "The bond stays as is."
Barkovic also asked the court to drop the requirement that Mathers enter treatment at all. Hackel denied that too.
The one path out of jail, confirmed again
Before the hearing adjourned, Barkovic asked Hackel directly whether Mathers could still leave jail for treatment under the conditions already on the books. Per ClickOnDetroit, he confirmed the offer stands: Mathers can be released from the Macomb County Jail if, and only if, she returns to in-patient treatment. That is the same condition Hackel set on October 7, not a new concession. The WDIV headline, "permitted to leave jail for in-patient treatment," describes a standing door that was already open, not a release granted Wednesday.
eminem.news's writeup of the same hearing, citing The Detroit News, reported that Barkovic argued Mathers has "maintained complete sobriety" since leaving the treatment facility in August and has "made significant positive strides and positive progress." We have not independently verified those quotes against the Detroit News original, so treat them as attributed to that outlet rather than confirmed firsthand here.

How Wednesday fits the timeline
The dispute over authority is the same one we covered in detail after October 7: Barkovic says a magistrate agreed on October 2 to modify Mathers's bond so she could leave treatment early. Hackel ruled the magistrate had no authority to do that, revoked bond, and sent her back to jail. Wednesday was Barkovic's attempt to get that modification reinstated through Hackel himself instead of around him. It did not work, and the underlying facts have not changed since the full timeline we published in September: she left the Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center on August 26, had 37 days outside any approved bond condition, and has been in custody, with one brief exception, since.
What is still open
- No sentencing yet. The misdemeanor case, Mathers's May 11 no-contest plea to Operating While Impaired and Failure to Report an Accident, still has not been sentenced.
- No probable cause conference yet. Both felony cases, the third-offense OWI and the two counts tied to the July 11 incident at her home, remain at the conference stage.
- No exact next date. Reporting says "a future Friday." We will update once a specific date is confirmed.
- The contempt motion prosecutors filed October 5 was not addressed in Wednesday's reporting and appears to still be pending.
Eminem has not commented on any of this, and nothing in the court record connects him to these cases. The coverage continues because Kim Mathers is Hailie Jade's mother and a figure in some of his most personal songs, not because he has said anything about her 2026 cases. We will keep updating as the record changes.
