50 Cent's Diddy Doc Just Won Its First Emmy

Sean Combs: The Reckoning went into the Creative Arts Emmys with three nominations and came out with a win for picture editing, the first Emmy the series has ever taken. Here's what it won, what it lost to, and how 50 Cent's Emmy record now compares to Eminem's.

50 Cent's Diddy Doc Just Won Its First Emmy

Three nominations, one win, and it landed in the category that says the most about how the series was actually built.

Netflix's Sean Combs: The Reckoning won Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program on Saturday night, taking the first Emmy of its run at Night 1 of the 78th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, held at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.

The series went in with three nominations and left with that one. It is the only Emmy the show has won, and given that it premiered in December 2025, 2026 was its first year of eligibility.

Netflix's official teaser, posted to its own channel on December 1, 2025. Sixty-nine seconds, and almost all of the work in it is cutting.

The category it won is the right one

Picture editing sounds like the consolation prize until you think about what this particular series had to do. The Reckoning is four episodes assembled almost entirely out of archive footage, court record and interviews about a criminal case that was still moving while the show was being cut. There is no narrator holding it together and no reenactment filling gaps. Whatever shape the story has, the edit put it there.

The winning episode is "Blink Again," the fourth and final one. The Television Academy credits seven people on it: supervising editors Charles Divak and Evan Wise, lead editor Jack Gravina, and editors Benji Kast, Adam Goldstein, Jonathan Miller and Jeremy Siefer. Craft categories like this one go to the people who did the craft, so the statuettes belong to that room rather than to the producers.

50 Cent's name sits on the series a level up. He is an executive producer, his G-Unit Film & Television is a credited production company alongside House of Nonfiction and Texas Crew Productions, and he was personally on the ballot in the series category.

The full card

CategoryResultWinner
Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program
episode: "Blink Again"
Won Sean Combs: The Reckoning
Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series Lost Mr. Scorsese (Apple TV)
Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program
episode: "Pain Vs Love"
Lost Mariska Hargitay, My Mom Jayne

The series category was the big one, and it was also the crowded one. Eight people were credited as nominees on The Reckoning there: 50 Cent, director Alexandria Stapleton, Stacy Scripter, David Karabinas, Ariel Brozell and Brad Bernstein as executive producers, Megan Goedewaagen as co-executive producer, and Vanessa Sanchez as supervising producer. It went to Mr. Scorsese.

Stapleton, who directed all four episodes and produced as well, lost the directing category to Mariska Hargitay for My Mom Jayne.

Where this leaves 50 Cent's Emmy record

Counting Saturday, Curtis Jackson has two career Primetime Emmy nominations and one win. The nomination is this year's, as an executive producer in the series category. The win is older and stranger, and it is the reason this story belongs on an Eminem site at all.

In 2022, at the 74th Primetime Emmys, the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show won Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Every performer on that stage is a winner on that award: Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and Eminem. Eminem's Television Academy page reads exactly like 50 Cent's did before this year, one nomination and one win, for that show.

The show itself is on the NFL's own channel, all fourteen minutes and forty seconds of it, 50 Cent's upside-down entrance included. The NFL blocks that upload from playing outside YouTube, so it cannot be embedded here and the link above opens it there instead.

There is a neat coincidence in the timing. That same category, on that same Saturday night, went to Bad Bunny for the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, his first Emmy and the first Spanish-language program ever to win it. His halftime show took seven awards across the weekend, which makes it the most decorated Super Bowl performance in Emmy history. The category that gave half of hip hop's biggest names their only statuette keeps doing it.

What separates 50 Cent from the rest of that 2022 lineup is that he is now the only one who has been nominated for producing television as well as performing on it. Whatever anyone thinks of the subject he picked, that is a different career than the one he started with.

The series itself

Sean Combs: The Reckoning ran four episodes on Netflix from December 2, 2025, directed by Alexandria Stapleton, whose earlier work includes Corman's World and How Music Got Free. It covers Combs' rise and his legal collapse. The project was reported and argued over for more than a year before it arrived, and Combs' side has disputed aspects of how it was made.

Worth keeping straight: an editing Emmy is a craft award, voted on by the Television Academy's editors. It is a judgment about how well the thing was cut, not about the case, and nobody involved has pitched it as anything else.

Nothing left on the calendar

All three of the show's nominations were Creative Arts categories, and the nonfiction ones were settled on Night 1. The Reckoning is not up for anything on the main telecast on September 14, so its Emmy season is finished at one for three.

50 Cent posted plenty in July when the nominations came in. He has not said anything publicly about Saturday's result as of publication, which is mildly surprising for him. We'll update if that changes.

Category results, episode titles and the full lists of credited nominees and recipients come from the Television Academy's own show and nominee database at televisionacademy.com, cross-checked against the Night 1 winners lists published by The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and USA Today on September 5, 2026. Night 1 of the 78th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards was held Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live; Night 2 followed on September 6, and the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards telecast is September 14, 2026. 50 Cent's and Eminem's individual Emmy records are from their Television Academy bio pages; the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show won Outstanding Variety Special (Live) at the 74th Primetime Emmys in 2022. Bad Bunny's win for the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show was reported by Variety and Billboard on September 5, 2026. Sean Combs: The Reckoning: four episodes, Netflix, released December 2, 2025, directed by Alexandria Stapleton, produced by House of Nonfiction, G-Unit Film & Television and Texas Crew Productions. The embedded teaser is Netflix's own channel upload, December 1, 2025. The halftime show is linked rather than embedded because the NFL blocks its upload (February 14, 2022) from playing on other sites. 50 Cent had not publicly commented on the September 5 result at the time of writing.
