Eleven days, eight real stories, and three corrections. Here's the complete Eminem rundown for August 1–11, 2026 — the rehab reveal that says more about Marshall Mathers than any interview he's given in years, the Rakim album that isn't what most outlets told you it was, a $3,000 Jordan grail, and a streaming milestone that quietly landed yesterday while everyone was looking somewhere else.
Early August is usually the dead zone of the music calendar. Not this year. Between August 1 and August 11, 2026, the Shady universe produced one genuinely moving story, one legend handing out flowers, one dictionary joke, two sneaker grails, and a catalog milestone that no other outlet has picked up yet.
Three stories making the rounds right now are wrong or overstated — including the release date of the album everyone's excited about, what Jay-Z and Eminem actually contribute to it, and an anniversary that's being celebrated a month early. Those corrections are below, sourced.
The 60-second version
| Date | Story | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Aug 3 | Rakim praises Jay-Z & Eminem | The God MC calls their respect "confirmation that what I do is relevant" |
| Aug 6 | Merriam-Webster uses Em to define "The D.O.C." | The dictionary is now doing hip-hop bits |
| Aug 6–7 | Kurupt: Eminem paid for his rehab | The biggest story of the month, and it's not close |
| Aug 7 | Hit-Boy on Renegade at Yankee Stadium | A superproducer reduced to a fan, on the record |
| Aug 5–9 | Martha Stewart still hasn't met Eminem | Two decades of declined invitations |
| Aug 8 | Air Jordan 2 "The Way I Am" resurfaces | 313 pairs, and collectors are paying for it |
| Aug 8 | Air Jordan 4 "Encore" retail rumor | A 50-pair friends-and-family grail may go public |
| Aug 10 | Recovery crosses 6 billion Spotify streams | Reported here first |
1. Kurupt says Eminem quietly paid for his rehab
This is the story of the month, and it's the one worth sitting with.
On Sway in the Morning — Sway Calloway's show on Eminem's own Shade 45 channel — Kurupt opened up about a battle with alcohol addiction that got about as bad as it gets. Per his account, the drinking led to multiple seizures and eventually a medically induced coma that lasted nearly three weeks.
Two people from the Aftermath/Shady world reached out. The first was Dr. Dre, who simply called.
"It was Dr. Dre that called and was just giving his support and just let me know that, you know, we all go through these things."
The second was Eminem, and Em did something different. According to Kurupt, Eminem arranged a placement at a private facility through people he trusted — and covered the bill himself, on the condition that nobody would know Kurupt was there.
"I'm gonna put Kurupt with my folks, and I'm going to put some money into like, a rehab situation to where he can sit down and enjoy [himself] and be out the way."
"You know, these things cost bread, so Em put the cheese up for it and said, 'Tell Kurupt I love him.'"
"That was real special to me. I appreciate both of them so much… He just came out the blue from nowhere."
What we can't tell you: the coverage doesn't pin down when the rehab stay happened. Kurupt describes it as one of the darkest stretches of his life, but no outlet reporting this has attached a year to it, and we're not going to invent one.
What gives it weight is the context. Eminem has been open about his own overdose and long road to sobriety — he passed the 18-year mark in April 2026. Someone who came through that on the other side, writing a check so a peer could disappear into treatment without a headline, is about as on-brand as it gets. It stayed quiet for years precisely because that was the point. It only surfaced because Kurupt chose to say it out loud.
And there's a nice piece of symmetry here: Kurupt has been in Em's orbit on wax for decades. He's one of the MCs Eminem name-checks in his roll call of greats on "Till I Collapse" — a track that, absurdly, posted its best chart week ever in 2026, 24 years after release.

2. Rakim gives Jay-Z and Eminem their flowers — and we need to correct the record on his album
In an interview published August 3, 2026, Rakim was asked about two of the biggest names in rap publicly crediting him. Jay-Z has invoked Rakim's line about "constant elevation causes expansion." Eminem has said Rakim single-handedly revolutionized hip-hop rhyme schemes. The God MC's response was pure humility:
"It's confirmation that what I do is relevant. Two people that I admire and respect crazily, Jay and Eminem, to hear your peers show you love and speak on you in their moment is very humbling."
Now here's where a lot of coverage has gone sideways. Three things are being widely repeated that aren't right:
Correction #1: The album is out September 18, not August 28
The collaborative project from Rakim, Kurupt and Masta Killa is titled The Godbody. When the tracklist first leaked in June, the date circulating was August 28, 2026 — and you'll still find that date on Wikipedia and in a lot of aggregator posts as of this writing. It moved. As of the lead single's rollout in late July, the album is dated September 18, 2026. Fifteen tracks, produced by Rakim and Nick Wiz. (We flagged the original August date in our June report on the reunion — consider this the update.)
Correction #2: Jay-Z and Eminem do not rap on it
This is the big one. Headlines in June framed track 6 as a Jay-Z and Eminem collaboration, their first since "Renegade" in 2001. Technically they share a track. Practically, neither of them has a verse on it.
Track 6 is titled "God Speak (Interlude)", and it's built from archival interview reflections — Jay and Em talking about what Rakim meant to them, curated onto the record by executive producer Matthew "M80" Markoff as a tribute. It is a homage, not a reunion. If you've been waiting 25 years for Renegade II, this isn't it, and we'd rather tell you that now than let you press play in September expecting bars.
Correction #3: Kurupt is on this album
Not an error so much as a connection nobody's drawing: the same Kurupt whose rehab Eminem paid for is one of the three lead artists on the record that features Eminem paying tribute to Rakim. Two of the biggest Eminem stories of the week are the same story from different angles.
The lead single, "A Different Kind," dropped July 25 — Rakim's first self-produced solo track in fifteen years:

3. Hit-Boy on watching Renegade live: "I was rapping that shit word for word"
On the Big Bro with Kid Cudi podcast (covered August 7), Cudi asked Hit-Boy — a producer with Grammys and a catalog full of Jay-Z, Kendrick, Nas and Beyoncé credits — when he last felt like a wide-eyed kid. The answer wasn't about gear or a plaque.
"I ain't going to lie, man. The first thing that came to mind was seeing Hov and Eminem do Renegade on stage at Yankee Stadium. That's some shit I wish I would have been able to see back then. But just to experience it now, I was rapping that shit word for word. Like bro, that shit felt great. [The Blueprint was] the first album I bought. So that shit hit me different."
He's talking about the July 11, 2026 surprise at Yankee Stadium, which we covered in full here. The detail that makes it land: The Blueprint was the first album Hit-Boy ever bought with his own money. Twenty-five years later he's in the building watching the one song on it that arguably got away from Jay — and he's not working. He's just yelling the words.
And the studio version, still undefeated:
4. Martha Stewart, 85, has been trying to meet Eminem for nearly 20 years
In a People interview that circulated between August 5 and 9, Martha Stewart — now 85 — got asked about rap and delivered one of the more charming admissions of the month:
"I like rap music. I especially like Eminem, and I could never get Eminem to come on any show. He would not accept any invitation. I still haven't met him."
Some context for how long this has been going on. Stewart first invited Snoop Dogg onto her show back in 2008 — a booking that turned into a genuine friendship and eventually the Emmy-nominated Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party. That's the model she wanted with Em. It never happened. Reporting around her comments notes she tried to catch him at the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show — the Dre/Snoop/Em/Kendrick/Mary J. Blige set — and that Snoop had at one point offered to personally deliver him.
Honestly? This tracks perfectly with everything we know about how Eminem operates. He turns down almost everything. He's not a talk-show guy, he's never been a talk-show guy, and the fact that one of the most famous hosts in America has been politely declined for the better part of two decades is less a snub than a personality trait.

5. Merriam-Webster let Eminem define "The D.O.C."
On August 6, the Merriam-Webster dictionary posted a homophone lesson to X: doc (a document), dock (where a ship ties up), Doc (a physician) — and then, for The D.O.C., it skipped the definition entirely and dropped in a clip of Eminem.
The footage comes from The D.O.C.'s 2022 documentary, in which Em praises the West Coast pioneer — "He was doing things that nobody had done yet, like just lyrically" — and then rips into a mile-a-minute a cappella of "Mind Blowin'" from D.O.C.'s 1989 debut No One Can Do It Better. He gets a few bars deep, loses the thread, and has to call D.O.C. himself over to sort out the next line. It's a great clip precisely because it shows the most technically feared rapper alive getting humbled by a 1989 verse.
From Eminem's official channel.
Worth remembering: Merriam-Webster and Eminem have history. "Stan" — as in an obsessive fan — entered the dictionary as a direct result of his 2000 song. Em didn't just get defined by the dictionary. He added to it.

6. Sneaker week: a 313-pair grail and a rumored 2027 retail drop
The Air Jordan 2 "The Way I Am" (2008)
Unboxing content pushed this one back into fan feeds around August 8. The facts, which are genuinely wild:
- Released: December 18, 2008, at $110 retail
- Made: 313 pairs — a nod to Detroit's area code
- Colorway: Black / Stealth / Varsity Red, with Em's handwritten-style lyrics across the upper
- Sold through: Flight Club, a short-lived Jordan Brand site used for exclusive launches
- Tied to: Eminem's 2008 memoir, also called The Way I Am
- Extras: shipped with a matching T-shirt; offered up to size 18
- Now: instant sellout in 2008, average resale around $3,200, with clean boxed pairs asking far more
Paul Rosenberg actually revealed the shoe two months early, in October 2008. If you've been following the Julien's auction of Em's personal sneakers, you already know how hard this corner of the market runs.
The Air Jordan 4 "Encore" — rumored for May 2027
Bigger news, with a caveat we're going to be firm about. Reports on August 8 indicated that the near-mythical Eminem x Air Jordan 4 "Encore" may finally get a public retail release in May 2027, style code JJ3098-400, in a Blue Ribbon / Game Purple / Stealth / Black makeup.
Why that matters: the original 2005 pair, made to celebrate Encore, was a friends-and-family run of roughly 50 pairs. Jordan Brand revived it in 2017 around Revival — and that run was 23 pairs. This is one of the rarest Jordans in existence. A general release would be a genuine event.
The caveat: as of this writing, Jordan Brand has not confirmed any of it. Complex explicitly notes the release "has yet to be confirmed," and the images circulating are mock-ups, not product shots. Treat the date, the colorway and the price as rumor until Nike says otherwise. We'll update this when it's official.

7. The 8 Mile anniversary everyone is celebrating a month early
You'll see posts this week marking 25 years since 8 Mile began filming. The milestone is real and it's worth marking. The date isn't quite right.
The documented timeline: principal photography on 8 Mile began in September 2001, in Highland Park, Michigan, and wrapped in January 2002. The film opened November 8, 2002. So the 25th anniversary of the first day of shooting lands in September 2026 — next month — not early August.
Small thing. But if you're going to build a post around an anniversary, the anniversary should be the right one. We'll have the proper retrospective ready in September. In the meantime, our deep dive on 8 Mile's legacy covers why the film still hits, and it's worth noting what Em was walking into: a first-time actor, a director in Curtis Hanson coming off L.A. Confidential and Wonder Boys, and a Detroit winter shoot that ran nearly five months.
8. The story nobody else reported: Recovery just crossed 6 billion Spotify streams
While the aggregators were doing sneaker unboxings, a real milestone landed.
As of Spotify data current to August 10, 2026, Recovery has passed 6 billion streams — the deluxe edition sitting at roughly 6.01 billion. That makes Em's 2010 comeback album the third of his projects into the 6-billion club, and it's the one that means the most in context: Recovery is the sober album. It's the record he made on the other side of the overdose, and sixteen years later it's still adding millions of plays a day.
And while we're in the data, here's the one to circle on your calendar. The Eminem Show is at roughly 9.96 billion streams across its main editions. It is weeks — possibly days — from becoming a 10-billion-stream album. For a record released in May 2002, five years before Spotify existed in most of the world, that is an absurd sentence to type.

What didn't make the cut
Two items are circulating that we deliberately left out, and you deserve to know why:
- An "Eminem has died" post. There's a page claiming a death hoax was debunked on August 8. It traces back to a site that auto-generates death-hoax pages for hundreds of celebrities. There was no meaningful hoax and no statement from his camp. Reporting the debunk would only spread the thing.
- "Stans hits Paramount+ on August 26." True — in 2025. The Eminem-produced documentary about his own fanbase has been streaming for close to a year. We covered it back in November 2025. It's showing up in August searches because of the date, not because it's news.
What we're watching next
- The Eminem Show hitting 10 billion Spotify streams — imminent.
- The Godbody, September 18 — for "God Speak (Interlude)." Also note track 5 is called "Rabbit," and track 15 is a "Rabbit (Remix)" with Snoop. Probably a coincidence. Probably.
- Ed Sheeran at Ford Field, August 29 — Em joined him on that stage before. Detroit is already speculating.
- Lions Thanksgiving halftime — Em and Paul Rosenberg are executive producers on the Thanksgiving halftime show through 2027. Our breakdown of what to expect.
- Jordan Brand confirming (or killing) the AJ4 "Encore."
- The actual 8 Mile filming anniversary — September 2026.
Eight real stories in eleven days, no new music, and the standout is a quiet act of generosity Eminem specifically arranged so that nobody would find out about it. Twenty-six years into being the most scrutinized rapper alive, he's still hardest to read when he's doing something decent.
Frequently asked questions
Did Eminem really pay for Kurupt's rehab?
That's Kurupt's account, given on Sway in the Morning in early August 2026. He says Eminem arranged a private placement through trusted contacts and covered the cost, while Dr. Dre called to offer support. Eminem has not publicly commented, and no year for the treatment has been reported.
Are Jay-Z and Eminem on a new song together in 2026?
They share a track — "God Speak (Interlude)," track 6 on The Godbody by Rakim, Kurupt and Masta Killa — but neither raps on it. It's built from archival interview audio of the two praising Rakim, assembled as a tribute. Their last actual recorded collaboration remains "Renegade" (2001). They did perform it together live at Yankee Stadium on July 11, 2026.
When does The Godbody come out?
September 18, 2026. Earlier reports listed August 28; the date moved.
Has Martha Stewart ever met Eminem?
No. As of her August 2026 People interview, she says she has never met him and that he has declined every invitation to appear on her shows.
How rare are the Eminem Air Jordan 2 "The Way I Am"?
Only 313 pairs were made — a reference to Detroit's area code. They released December 18, 2008 at $110 and now average roughly $3,200 on the resale market.
Is the Eminem Air Jordan 4 "Encore" confirmed for 2027?
No. A May 2027 retail release is rumored and unconfirmed by Jordan Brand as of August 2026. Circulating images are mock-ups.
When did 8 Mile start filming?
Principal photography began in September 2001 in Highland Park, Michigan, and wrapped in January 2002. The film released November 8, 2002.
